Proposal Writer

Job Description

Under the general direction of the Director of Business Development, the Proposal Writer an office-based entry level position responsible for supporting company sales objectives by providing proposal writing, administrative, estimating, and sales support. This will include coordinating and driving all company responses to Requests for Proposal (RFPs), obtaining necessary information from internal resources, writing the proposal, and supporting estimating efforts. The position will also support the Director of Business Development and executive staff by performing administrative functions which may at times include identifying leads, cold calling, tracking activity in CRM platform, scheduling and coordinating meetings, attending tradeshows/conferences, and managing sales related documentation and information. This position has the potential to move into an outside sales role in the future.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in English
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  1. Take the lead in responding to all Requests for Proposal (RFPs)
  2. Write company proposals
  3. Support company estimating efforts as required
  4. Maintain sales records/activity in Pipedrive CRM database
  5. Provide administrative support to Northstar’s President, Vice Presidents and Directors for all sales activities on an as needed/on request basis. This may include scheduling meetings, planning travel, calendar management, taking on strategic sales initiatives, and making/participating in sales calls.
  6. Schedule sales to operations kickoff/turnover meetings.

Travel

Travel as needed to support business development efforts. Anticipated to be less than 25%. Travel within US.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience. Expected range between $50,000-$65,000.


Construction Superintendent

Northstar is seeking a Construction Superintendent to supervise field construction activities and to provide on-site management for the construction of Natural Gas (NG) stations, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) handling facilities and other construction related projects.

Basic/Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or other technical related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of work experience in the Natural Gas industry with at least five (5) years of relevant construction experience.
  • Experience supervising crew labor with varying skill types.
  • Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and maps.
  • Working knowledge of applicable gas industry codes and standards (49 CFR Part 192, 49 CFR Part 193, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8).
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, etc.).
  • OSHA 30 and industry safety training.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or other technical related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and organized manner.

Travel

Frequent travel and overnight stays within the continental United States with long term assignments (up to and possibly exceeding 6 months) required.

 

Responsibilities

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring all company: Safety, Health, Project Management, and Environmental Policies/Procedures/Standards are implemented and adhered to.
  • Assist the Project Manager in developing, monitoring, and executing the Project Execution Plan throughout the Project Life-Cycle.
  • Scheduling and coordinating subcontractors and vendors to conform to project schedules.
  • Providing daily updates and reports to the project team.
  • Identify out of scope work and assisting the Project Manager in Change Management throughout the Project Life-Cycle.
  • Assist the Assistant Project Manager in updating Project Schedules on a weekly basis.
  • Tracking and coordination of deliveries at specified times to conform to project schedules.
  • Maintaining as-built drawings via Bluebeam.
  • Gathering and recording all necessary QA/QC documentation.

Working Conditions 

This is a medium work position requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, fingering, grasping and repetitive motions. The worker will be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and will be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.


Electrical Engineer

Under the general direction and supervision of the Manager of Electrical Engineering & Control Systems Design, the Electrical Engineer performs engineering duties associated with the design of power & control systems for natural gas metering & pressure regulating, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and/or compressed natural gas (CNG) handling systems. S/he is responsible for ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current regulations, codes, and policies.

Basic/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of electrical system design experience in the utility or power industry.
  • FE/EIT Certification.

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc., and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with designing electrical & control systems (hazardous area experience preferred) including:
    • SCADA systems (as they relate to the pipeline or municipal industries);
    • PLC logic, operation & programming;
    • Low voltage control systems;
    • Grounding; and
    • Cathodic protection.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) as it relates to:
    • General wiring practices,
    • Branch circuits,
    • Motors,
    • Lighting,
    • Low to medium voltage single and three-phase power services,
    • Circuit protection,
    • Wiring and installation of devices in hazardous locations,
    • Intrinsically safe wiring, and
  • Project Management experience.

The Electrical Engineer may be responsible for the following:

  • Sizing and specifying of power & control systems and related equipment (transformers, MCC, generators, instrumentation, etc.);
  • Directing the work of Engineering Technicians and Designer/Drafters in the preparation of power & control system design and drawings;
  • Tracking of project progress during fabrication and construction, and providing technical support;
  • Performing field engineering activities during construction and commissioning (as needed); and
  • Leading the performance of facility factory acceptance tests (FAT).

Staff Mechanical Engineer

Under the general direction and supervision of the Team Leader – Mechanical & Process Systems Design, the Staff Mechanical Engineer performs mechanical and piping system engineering & design duties to support the fabrication, manufacturing and installation of natural gas metering & pressure regulating stations, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) handling facilities. S/he is responsible for ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current regulations, codes, and policies.

Basic/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Entry level plus (1-3 plus years of relevant experience preferred).

Desired Qualifications

  • EIT or PE License.
  • Experience with designing ASME process piping systems (natural gas systems preferred).
  • Working knowledge of the design codes and construction specifications for natural gas installations.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency working with AutoCAD (Experience with 3D piping software such as CADWorx a plus), engineering & design programs, and other applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and prioritize work in a timely manner.
  • Capable of multi-tasking numerous projects at once and working within deadlines.

Responsibilities

The Staff Mechanical Engineer may be responsible for the following:

  • Sizing and specifying of piping systems and related equipment (control valves, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, etc.);
  • Performing heat transfer, pressure drop, and mass and heat balance calculations or simulations;
  • Preparing Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), piping drawings, isometric fabrication drawings, bill of materials, and general arrangement drawings in AutoCAD;
  • Performing visual inspections of incoming materials to make sure that they match the technical specifications;
  • Tracking of project progress during fabrication and construction, and providing technical support to the shop and project team;
  • Performing field engineering activities, as needed; and
  • Preparing as-built piping systems drawings.
